Verizon Wireless has filed a lawsuit against the City of Geneva following the city council's decision to deny permission for a new wireless communications tower near Eagle Brook.

The proposed tower, intended to address service issues in the area, sparked controversy among local residents and city officials.

Key points:

  • The proposed tower would be located behind a strip mall on Randall Road.

  • Verizon claims the area experiences unacceptable rates of dropped calls due to overloaded existing towers.

  • The city council recently voted to deny the special-use permit required to build the tower.

  • This is the second lawsuit Geneva faces regarding cell tower construction, with a similar case from 2022 still pending.

The proposed structure would be an 85-foot tall "stealth tower." Local opposition to the tower cites concerns about property value reduction and changes to the neighborhood's character.
