The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce presented Mark Koenen with the prestigious Charlemagne Award at their 56th annual awards dinner last week.

The lifetime achievement honor recognizes Koenen's 39 years of distinguished service to the city, including roles as city administrator and director of public works.

During his tenure, Koenen played a key role in award-winning city projects like the Prairie Street Bridge, new police station and First Street Plaza.

In his acceptance speech, the recently retired Koenen expressed his gratitude for the St. Charles community as well as the business owners and officials he has worked with over the years.

The gala also celebrated the chamber's 102nd anniversary and honored other businesses and community leaders. Get a detailed recap of the event here.
