Emagine Batavia has made entertainment a bit more accessible by hosting dementia-friendly movie screenings.
Held on the second Wednesday of each month, these events create a welcoming environment for people with dementia and memory challenges to enjoy classic films and musicals in a sensory-adjusted setting.
Key points:
Sensory adjustments: The screenings feature softer sound and ambient lighting to create a calm experience for guests and their caregivers.
Interactive atmosphere: Films are often classics or musicals that encourage singing, dancing and interaction.
Community focus: Introduced shortly after the theater opened in June 2023, these events draw up to 40 attendees monthly.
Beyond dementia-friendly screenings, Emagine Batavia also offers sensory-friendly and open-caption showings, catering to a variety of accessibility needs.
