Nicholas Smith, the filmmaker behind the 2011 thriller "Munger Road," has secured initial approval from St. Charles officials to film a sequel this fall.

City Council gave the green light for a temporary closure of a section of Route 64 in mid-October to accommodate filming. However, as this is a state highway, Smith's production team must also obtain permission from Illinois transportation authorities.

The original "Munger Road" showcased various Kane County locations, including its namesake street in Wayne. For the sequel, Smith plans to once again utilize St. Charles as a primary backdrop.

The new installment of the film would jump forward 15 years, promising audiences a more intense and action-driven experience while addressing unresolved plot elements from the first film.

While this marks a crucial step forward, additional approvals will be necessary before cameras can roll.
