A newly submitted project narrative and special use permit application filed with the City of Geneva offers fresh details about HoneyBird, the planned broasted chicken restaurant from the owners of Riganato Old World Grille.
If approved, the restaurant — planned to open at 427 E. State Street in a converted 1877 building — will offer seating for 24 guests inside, plus a small outdoor deck with room for 16 more during warmer months. While primarily designed for takeout, the space aims to balance dine-in comfort with carry-out convenience.
To address parking challenges on the narrow lot, the owners are requesting a zoning variance to reduce the required setback along Woodlawn Street. The plan would allow for six parking spaces on-site and six more next door at 421 E. State.
The narrative outlines how the existing building will remain structurally intact, with improvements to siding and landscaping to enhance curb appeal.
According to a Daily Herald article from December 2024, the restaurant is targeting a spring or summer 2025 opening.
