Is a "wild mile" along the Fox River in St. Charles a possibility?

A rendering of what such a project might look like.
According to Dave Heun in the Daily Herald, the River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles has been thinking about potentially installing floating gardens near Pottawatomie Park downtown as part of future river improvement initiatives.
In the latest of its 2025 winter lecture series, the foundation is hosting a discussion on April 16 with the Urban Rivers group that will focus on the “Wild Mile” Chicago River project — which features boardwalk-style walkways intermixed with floating gardens.
From Heun’s column:
This notion of a floating garden has been on the minds of the foundation for some time, said John Rabchuk, a member of the foundation board.
“Design elements like floating gardens and improved riverfront trails such as those incorporated in the Wild Mile are also components of the Active River Plan,” Rabchuk explained. “Just imagine riverfront boardwalks winding through floating gardens as pedestrians stroll from Pottawatomie Park into downtown St. Charles to visit First Street Plaza and our many restaurants and shops.”
The fate of the St. Charles dam will need to be considered of course, but it’s fun to think about the possibility of a creative project like this.
